SHUSHA, Azerbaijan, July 22. Collective action
needs to be taken in connection with COP29, Azerbaijan's Deputy
Energy Minister, Chief Executive Officer of COP29, Elnur Soltanov,
said during a presentation on“Solidarity for a Green World -
COP29” at the II Shusha Global media Forum, Trend
reports.
“We should definitely take collective action on COP29. We have
the same atmosphere; we must be in solidarity for the sake of a
green world. If we do not act collectively, we will fail,” Soltanov
said.
He noted that one of the main issues within COP29 is the issue
of funding.
“We have to define a new funding model. We believe that COP29
will be a great opportunity for this, and we will make every
effort. Azerbaijan will establish a transparent environment for the
different parties to come together and have discussions. We should
finalize the issues and solve certain technical issues by November
11. There should be consensus in the negotiations.
We have included 14 agenda items in COP29. Azerbaijan considers
important the issues of the creation of“green” corridors, the
creation of storage facilities, and the issue of water shortage.
Nowadays, there is a shortage of water, and droughts occur. In this
regard, the water issue is very important, and therefore we should
also deal with this issue. We have chosen topics that are relevant
both at the national, regional, and global levels.
If there is no cooperation between developed countries, there
will be a crisis in developing countries. Climate change affects
all countries. We must be committed to national commitments because
each of them is important,” Soltanov said.
To note, the Second Shusha Global Media Forum is attended by 150
foreign guests from 49 countries, including news agencies from 34
countries, 12 international organizations and media entities, as
well as 60 heads and representatives of Azerbaijani media.
