Safadi, Irish Counterpart Discuss Efforts To Stop Israeli War On Gaza
Safadi stressed the need to intensify efforts aimed at stopping the Israeli aggression on Gaza and the continuous Israeli violations of international law and international humanitarian law, ensuring the protection of civilians, and delivering adequate and sustainable humanitarian aid to the besieged strip without hindrance, according to a ministry statement.
Safadi underscored the necessity of protecting the Palestinian people, international organisations, and relief agencies operating in Gaza, which are striving to mitigate the impact of the ongoing Israeli assaults on the Palestinian people, and allowing these institutions to carry out their vital humanitarian role in delivering aid to the Palestinians in war-torn Gaza.
He warned of the dangers of Israel's illegal measures against the Palestinian people and the Palestinian National Authority in the occupied West Bank, which constitute a blatant breach of international law, and pose a serious escalation that undermines all chances of achieving a just and comprehensive peace.
The two ministers also discussed the deteriorating situation in southern Lebanon, where Safadi underscored the need to de-escalate and adhere to UN Security Council Resolution 1701.
Safadi praised Ireland's clear stance in calling for an end to the aggression on Gaza, recognising the State of Palestine, and supporting the Palestinian people's right to freedom and statehood based on the two-state solution and following international law.
For his part, Martin commended the Kingdom's role in efforts seeking to achieve security, stability, and peace in the region, and praised Amman's endeavours to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged strip.
Also on Monday, Safadi called Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó, whose country has assumed the rotating presidency of the European Union for the next six months.
Safadi and Szijjártó discussed ways to increase cooperation and strengthen relations between the two countries, develop partnership relations between the Kingdom and the European Union and prepare for the 15th meeting of the EU-Jordan Association Council on July 15, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
Safadi congratulated his Hungarian counterpart on his country's assumption of the EU presidency.
The two ministers discussed efforts to achieve a permanent ceasefire and ensure the sufficient and immediate delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip, in addition to issues of asylum and migration and ways to reduce the challenges they pose to Jordan, the region, and Europe.
Safadi had received Hungarian Foreign Minister Péter Szijjártó in Amman on May 22, during which he emphasised the need to stop the Israeli aggression on Gaza and end the humanitarian catastrophe it causes.
The two ministers stressed their mutual commitment to enhancing the friendship between the two countries and increasing cooperation in various fields.
The two ministers also signed a Memorandum of Understanding in the youth field between the Jordanian Government, represented by the Ministry of Youth, and the Government of Hungary, represented by the Ministry of Culture and Innovation for the years 2024-2028. They also signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the Ministry of Environment in Jordan and the Ministry of Energy in Hungary regarding cooperation in environmental protection, and a Memorandum of Understanding between the Jordanian Diplomatic Institute at the ministry and the Hungarian Diplomatic Academy at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Hungary.
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in Jordan and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Hungary for cooperation within the framework of the Hungarian Scholarship Programme for the years 2025-2027.
