Algeria launches international tender for soft wheat

(MENAFN) Today, the Algerian Professional Cereals Office announced the commencement of an international tender aimed at procuring soft milling wheat. This initiative is part of Algeria's strategy to ensure sufficient wheat supplies for upcoming periods, including mid-September and October. The tender specifies the purchase of a nominal quantity of up to 50,000 tons, signaling the bureau's intention to make a targeted acquisition at this time. Interested parties are invited to submit their bids by Tuesday, July 9, with offers remaining valid until the following day.

According to sources, the wheat purchased through this tender will be transported exclusively to the ports of Mostaganem and/or Ténès. The origin of the wheat is expected to be from South America or Australia, with shipments scheduled one month prior to the stipulated delivery dates. Algeria, a significant importer of wheat from the European Union, particularly from France, aims to bolster its strategic reserves to meet both food security and economic requirements.

This tender underscores Algeria's proactive approach to securing essential food commodities, reflecting its commitment to maintaining stability in wheat supply amid global market dynamics. By diversifying its sources of wheat procurement and adhering to stringent import protocols, Algeria seeks to safeguard its national interests while ensuring continuity in meeting domestic wheat demands.
