Azerbaijan Aims Increasing Presence At China's Int'l Tourism Exhibitions

Azerbaijan plans to enhance its presence at international tourism exhibitions in China, Head of the Tourism Policy and Strategy Department at the State Tourism Agency of Azerbaijan Mahammad Muradov said during a conference on the promotion of logistics and trade in Azerbaijan, SCO demonstration area, Trend reports.

He highlighted the tourism sector's vital role in Azerbaijan's economy, which is drawing an increasing number of international and domestic tourists.

"In 2023, revenues from tourist accommodation totaled $2.7 billion, marking a 2 percent increase from 2022. The tourism sector now contributes 2.4 percent of GDP, reaching pre-pandemic levels. To ensure sustainable development, Azerbaijan places particular emphasis on promoting tourism in remote regions and continues to pursue efforts in this regard," he stated.

Muradov pointed out that Azerbaijan rolled out the red carpet for a whopping 16,609 tourists from China in the first half of 2024, showing a mind-blowing 135 percent surge compared to the same period last year.

"We also aim to enhance our presence at international tourism exhibitions in China, launch advertising campaigns, promote Azerbaijan's tourism offerings, and enhance the skills of our professionals in this sector. Additionally, we are committed to developing direct air links and expanding financial services between our countries," he added.
