Gang Rape Of Minor In Srinagar: FSL Report Awaited: Police


(MENAFN- Kashmir Observer) Srinagar- Police officials on Friday said that they are awaiting the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) report concerning evidence collected from the crime scene and the vehicle used in the alleged gang rape case of a minor girl from north Kashmir's Pattan. The incident, which sparked widespread shock across Kashmir, reportedly occurred at a rented accommodation in Srinagar.

SHO Pattan Khalid Fayaz said that the main proceedings are complete, and they are awaiting the FSL report.“Once received, we will proceed to produce the challan and take further action,” Fayaz told Kashmir Observer.

“The report usually takes
around two months but we have urged the concerned to complete the report in a time bound manner so that we could produce a challan and initiate further action,” Fayaz added.

“We had found some evidence at the place of crime and in the vehicle of the accused, we have sent that for investigation to the FSL lab. Once we receive the report we will be able to figure out if a gang rape
was carried out.”

The victim, after the assault, was reportedly taken to a child welfare center for counseling and subsequently returned home in stable condition. The incident came to light when the victim's parents filed a complaint at the Pattan police station, reporting her disappearance on June 19.

Following the complaint, Pattan police launched an investigation and formed a specialized team to handle the case. They located the girl on June 20 and recorded her statement, where she recounted being abducted and transported to Srinagar by three individuals on June 19.

Following her testimony, Pattan police swiftly arrested the three suspects involved in the crime. An FIR under sections 363 and 376 of the POCSO Act was registered at the Pattan police station.
