Qatar National Library collaborates with IASA to heritage preservation efforts across region

(MENAFN) Qatar National Library (QNL) has collaborated with the International Association of Sound and Audiovisual Archives (IASA) to further heritage preservation efforts across the MENA region. Serving as the International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions (IFLA) Preservation and Conservation (PAC) Regional Center for MENA, QNL and IASA have completed Arabic translations of four significant publications from IASA's Technical Committee.

These translations aim to empower regional organizations and professionals by providing access to IASA’s technical expertise in audiovisual conservation. This effort supports the preservation and dissemination of the region’s cultural heritage, particularly in safeguarding vulnerable audiovisual formats.

Tan Huism, Executive Director of Qatar National Library, highlighted the importance of this partnership in advancing preservation practices: "Qatar National Library is committed to sharing knowledge and best practices, especially in audiovisual preservation, given its vulnerability. By making these essential publications available in Arabic, we aim to enable regional institutions and professionals to protect their cultural heritage for future generations."

Patrick J Midtlyng, President of IASA, expressed appreciation for the collaboration and emphasized the global significance of these publications: "Partnering with QNL to translate these documents into Arabic aligns with IASA's mission to foster international cooperation and knowledge exchange in sound and audiovisual archives."

Maxim Nasra, Head of the Preservation and Conservation Center at Qatar National Library, highlighted the practical impact of these translations: "These publications offer critical guidelines that will enhance the capabilities of professionals working with audiovisual archives in our region. They serve as foundational resources in our ongoing efforts to ensure the long-term preservation of cultural memory."

This collaboration underscores QNL's and IASA's dedication to advancing the field of audiovisual preservation and supporting cultural heritage initiatives in the MENA region and beyond.
