AKEED Reports 74 Unfounded Rumors Circulating In June

Amman, July 2 (Petra) - The Jordanian
media Credibility Monitor (AKEED) reported 74 rumors circulating among the public in June, spread through local and foreign media outlets and social media platforms.
In its monthly report issued on Tuesday, AKEED explained that it uses both quantitative and qualitative methodologies to monitor rumors. A rumor is defined as incorrect or inaccurate information or news related to Jordanian public or interests that has reached more than 5,000 people via digital media, regardless of whether it was officially denied.
AKEED noted that out of the 74 rumors, 21 were officially denied, marking an increase from May, which saw 14 debunked rumors.
Security-related rumors ranked first with 24 instances, representing 32 percent of the total, and showing an increase of 14 rumors compared to May. Social field rumors rose from third place in May to second place in June, with 17 rumors, accounting for 23 percent.
Economic rumors saw a significant increase from 5 in May to 15 in June, constituting 20 percent of the total. These included topics such as poultry shortages and electric cars.
The monitoring process traced the source of these rumors, particularly through social media and public publishing platforms. Internal sources, including social media and news sites, accounted for 68 of the total rumors, representing 92 percent, while 6 rumors originated from external sources, making up 8 percent.
