Putin finally gets to Vietnam following his trip to N-Korea

(MENAFN) Russian President Vladimir Putin has commenced a two-day state visit to Vietnam, part of his broader Asian tour immediately following his historic visit to North Korea. During his time in Vietnam, Putin is scheduled to engage in high-level meetings with Vietnamese leaders, including President To Lam, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, and General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong of the Communist Party.

The discussions are expected to cover a wide range of bilateral issues, focusing particularly on economic partnerships, trade relations, scientific and technological cooperation, and strategies for addressing global challenges. In an article published ahead of his visit in Vietnam's Communist Party newspaper, Putin highlighted the increasing use of national currencies, such as the Russian ruble and Vietnamese dong, in bilateral transactions. He noted that these transactions have surpassed reliance on the United States dollar and euro, reflecting a global shift towards diversifying currency usage in international trade and investment.

Putin emphasized the significant progress in bilateral trade between Russia and Vietnam, noting that transactions conducted in national currencies accounted for over 40 percent of trade last year and have risen to nearly 60 percent in the first quarter of this year. This trend underscores both countries' efforts to strengthen economic ties and reduce dependency on traditional global currencies.

The visit underscores Russia's ongoing diplomatic engagement in the Asia-Pacific region and highlights its strategic interests in enhancing cooperation with Vietnam, a key partner in Southeast Asia. As discussions unfold, the outcomes of Putin's visit are anticipated to deepen bilateral relations and potentially pave the way for expanded economic and diplomatic collaborations between Russia and Vietnam.
