Amman Chamber Of Industry Records Increase In Exports Over First Five Months Of 2024

Amman, June 11 (Petra) - The Amman Chamber of industry reported an increase in exports during the first five months of this year, reaching JD 2.847 billion compared to JD 2.831 billion in the same period last year. This marks a growth rate of 0.6 percent, driven by an uptick in exports from most sectors, except for four that experienced declines.
Statistical data from the Jordan News Agency (Petra) indicates that six sectors saw an increase in exports, ranging from 3.9 percent for leather and textile industries to 43 percent for chemical and cosmetics industries.
Conversely, four sectors experienced a decrease in exports, ranging from a 1 percent drop in the catering, food, agricultural, and livestock industries to a 33.8 percent decline in the mining industries.
More than half of the Chamber's exports during this period were directed to India, the United States, Saudi Arabia, and Iraq, totaling JD 1.877 billion.
Specifically, exports to the United States surged by 82.4 percent, reaching JD 840 million compared to JD 460 million in the same period last year. Exports to Iraq rose by 17.4 percent, amounting to JD 364 million, up from JD 310 million last year.
In contrast, exports to Saudi Arabia decreased by 4.4 percent, falling to approximately JD 329 million from JD 343 million. Exports to India also saw a decline of 29.4 percent, dropping to JD 344 million from JD 487 million.
Geographically, the Chamber's exports during the first five months of the year were primarily to Arab countries, which received JD 1.201 billion worth of goods. Non-Arab Asian countries received about JD 516 million, while exports to African countries totaled around JD 13 million.
Exports to North American countries amounted to approximately JD 855 million, South American countries received JD 25 million, European Union countries received JD 141 million, European countries outside the EU received JD 55 million, and other countries received goods worth JD 41 million.
The Chamber's exports during this period were distributed across various sectors: chemical and cosmetics (JD 768 million), mining (JD 561 million), and engineering, electrical, and information technology (JD 447 million).
Catering, food, agricultural, and livestock sector exports amounted to about JD 324 million, therapeutic and medical supplies reached JD 268 million, and leather and textiles recorded JD 191 million.
Additional exports were distributed among plastic and rubber industries (JD 123 million), packaging, paper, cardboard, and office supplies (JD 114 million), construction (JD 43 million), and wood and furniture industries (JD 9 million).
The Amman Chamber of Industry, established in 1962, currently includes 8,600 industrial establishments in its membership, employing 159,000 workers with a total capital of about JD 5 billion.
