Israeli airstrikes in Lebanon claim lives of 2 Hezbollah members, injure 3

(MENAFN) Tensions flared once again along the Lebanon-Israel border as Israeli airstrikes targeted Lebanese villages, resulting in casualties and injuries. According to Lebanese military sources speaking on anonymity, two members of the armed group Hezbollah lost their lives in the airstrikes, while three civilians sustained injuries.

The airstrikes, reportedly conducted in the southeastern village of Houla and the village of Aitaroun, claimed the lives of the Hezbollah members. Additionally, Israeli airstrikes in the village of Aita al-Shaab led to injuries among civilians, while another civilian was wounded in Israeli artillery shelling in the southeastern village of Kafr Kila.

In response to the Israeli actions, Hezbollah stated that it launched surface-to-air missiles at an Israeli warplane that violated southern Lebanon's airspace on the same day. Lebanese military sources confirmed the launch of surface-to-air missiles towards Israeli F-16 warplanes, prompting defensive measures from the Israeli side.

The escalation of tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border traces back to October 8, 2023, when Hezbollah launched rockets towards Israel in solidarity with an attack the previous day. In retaliation, Israel responded with heavy artillery fire directed towards southeastern Lebanon.

The ongoing confrontations have resulted in significant casualties on the Lebanese side, as per figures released by Lebanese security and medical authorities. The toll includes a total of 512 fatalities, comprising 327 Hezbollah members and 96 civilians. These sobering statistics underscore the human cost of the protracted conflict and the urgent need for efforts towards de-escalation and peace in the region.
