Turkmenistan Consistently Expanding Its Int'l Transit Capabilities


(MENAFN- Trend News Agency) ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan, April 15. Turkmenistanis consistently expanding its international transit capabilities,Trend reports.

This was stated by President of Turkmenistan SerdarBerdimuhamedov at the 38th meeting of the Conference of heads andresponsible representatives of railway transport enterprises of theOrganisation for Co-operation between Railways (OSJD) memberstates.

"Turkmenistan, located at the crossroads of Central Asia andEurope, is consistently expanding its international transitcapabilities through the modernization of the material andtechnical base of the national transport infrastructure," hesaid.

The President noted that during the years of Turkmenistan'sindependence, such international railways as Tejen-Serakhs-Mashhad,Kazakhstan-Turkmenistan-Iran, Kerki-Ymamnazar-Akina andSerkhetabat-Turgundi, Zerger-Kerki-Kerkichi, andAshgabat-Garagum-Dashoguz, as well as railway bridgesKerki-Kerkichi and Turkmenabat-Farab were built.

Meanwhile, the 38th meeting of the Conference of heads andresponsible representatives of railway transport enterprises of themember countries of the Organisation for Co-operation betweenRailways (OSJD) began its work in Ashgabat city today, which willlast by April 19.

The event is attended by heads and high-ranking representativesof railway departments from 19 OSJD member countries, as well asobservers from four countries: Finland, France, Germany, andGreece.
