RAMALLAH, Aug 25 (NNN-WAFA) - Representatives of European diplomatic missions in Palestine, yesterday paid a solidarity visit to a Palestinian village in the West Bank, and condemned the Israeli settlers' acts against the Palestinians.
According to a joint statement, the European diplomats' delegation, who visited the village of Burqa, east of the West Bank city of Ramallah, included representatives from France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Finland, Belgium, Sweden, Britain, Norway, and Canada.
Three weeks ago, Israeli settlers attacked the village and killed a Palestinian during clashes with the residents. The act was largely condemned by the Palestinians.
The diplomats underlined the prohibition of forcible transfers in International Humanitarian Law and reaffirmed their opposition to settlements, which are illegal under international law.
British Deputy Consul General in Jerusalem, Alison McEwen, said, the visit aims to show solidarity with the Palestinians, in light of the increasing settler violence against the Palestinians and the expansion of settlements and outposts in Area C.
More than 600,000 Israeli settlers live in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, according to official Palestinian figures.
Israel occupied the West Bank in 1967, and has since established settlements there, which are considered violations of international law.– NNN-WAFA
