(MENAFN) Pakistan’s interim Premier Anwaarul Haq Kakar took vow on Monday as flag-raising rituals, army parades, rallies, as well as firecrackers celebrated the 76th Independence Day of Pakistan over requests for "unity."
The day started with a 31-gun greeting in the capital city Islamabad in addition to a 21-gun greeting in the four district capitals.
Change of guards rituals, a conventional feature of the day, were arranged at the tombs of the founder of the nation, Mohammad Ali Jinnah, in the port town of Karachi, in addition to the domestic poet, Allama Mohammad Iqbal, in northeastern Lahore town.
The major flag-raising ritual was arranged in Islamabad, which was led over by Leader Arif Alvi, whereas the Senate director and National Assembly representative were in presence as well, state-run Pakistan Television announced.
It also marks the day Alvi, the eighth interim Prime Minister of Pakistan, took the oath. Haq is chosen as temporary premier through the weekend to supervise general elections to be arranged in the next three months.
