(MENAFN- Online PR Media) SGS publishes SafeGuardS looking at ISO's new standard for measuring fiber fragmentation – ISO 4484-3.Online PR News – 20-July-2023 – Geneva, Switzerland – SGS, the world's leading testing, inspection and certification company, has published a SafeGuardS to help textile businesses understand the new International Organization for Standardization (ISO) standard for measuring fiber fragmentation – ISO 4484-3 – Microplastics from textile sources – Part 3: Measurement of collected material mass released from textile end products by domestic washing method.
Issued in May 2023, ISO 4484-3 provides a standardized method for measuring material mass release from textile end products during washing. Shed fibers are collected using a filter bag attached to the outlet hose of the washing machine. These are then weighed to evaluate the level of fiber fragmentation.
SGS has published SafeGuardS 074.23 to give stakeholders an insight into the reasons behind the introduction of ISO 4484-3, its scope and the options available to businesses looking to reduce their environmental impact.
SGS has been involved in fiber fragmentation studies and analysis since 2016. In 2017, they released their first full-scale fiber fragmentation testing solution.
