Iranian Delegatin To Visit Afghanistan Over Water Rights Dispute

An Iranian MP said that a parliamentary delegation of Iran would visit Afghanistan to pursue the Helmand River's water rights.

“There have been talks with the foreign minister of our country about the trip of the parliamentary delegation to Afghanistan to follow up on the issue of water rights, and God willing, this trip will take place soon,” MP Mohammad Sargazi told ISNA news agency.

He added that parliamentarians from the Sistan and Baluchestan Province and representatives of the Iran-Afghanistan parliamentary friendship group would be included in the parliamentary delegation.

The delegation will visit the Kajaki Dam in Afghanistan, built in the Kajaki district of Helmand province of Afghanistan.

The aim of the visit is that the expert will assess the water level in the Kajaki Dam and report to the Iranian parliament on the amount of water in the Kajaki Dam.

Meanwhile, the Iranian MP called on the Afghan authorities to facilitate the visit. However, the Taliban authorities have not commented on the visit.
