Security Operation Kills Two Militants In N. Pakistan

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) ISLAMABAD, May 31 (KUNA) -- At least two "terrorists" were killed by security forces on Wednesday during a security operation in North Waziristan tribal district of Pakistan's northern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK) province bordering Afghanistan.
According to a press release by Pakistan military's media wing Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR), the operation was conducted on the reported presence of terrorists in the area.
The military confirmed that two terrorists were killed by security forces during an intelligence-based operation in the general area of North Waziristan's Dossali area.
"During the operation, an intense fire exchange occurred between security forces and terrorists, resulting in the killing of two terrorists," said ISPR.
It further said that weapons and ammunition were also recovered from the slain terrorists who were "actively involved in terrorist activities against security forces and the killing of innocent citizens".
It added that sanitization of the area was under way to eliminate other terrorists in the area.
"Locals of the area appreciated the operation and expressed their full support to eliminate the menace of terrorism," it concluded.
Earlier last week, militants targeting an energy plant in KPK province killed at least six security personnel, including four Frontier Constabulary personnel. (end)
