American lens producers’ stop supply for Russia

(MENAFN) American pharmaceuticals giant Johnson & Johnson is preparing to stop shipments of contact lenses to Russia, RIA Novosti stated on Thursday, quoting the company’s official supplier in the nation.

The news came after a statement in the Kommersant newspaper on Wednesday that Johnson & Johnson had told markets of a future stoppage of materials.

Russia’s contact lens industry is severely conquered by United States producers, whose total stake is more than 70 percent. Johnson & Johnson’s most known brands like Acuvue Oasys as well as Acuvue True Eyes contribute in nearly 50 percent of the overall capacity of contact lenses traded in Russia, based on Kommersant. Russia will encounter a shortage of lenses once the materials stop, the news agency has cautioned.

Between the replacements to United States-made lenses are brands produced in China and South Korea, although they are not extensively obtainable in Russia, Kommersant stated.
