Lebanese Embassy, Partners Support People With Cancer

Doha, Qatar: The Lebanese Embassy in Qatar, in cooperation with Qatar Cancer Society (QCS) and Children's Cancer Center of Lebanon (CCCL), organised“Just Thanks“event, which aims to provide access to quality treatment and much-needed support to children and adolescents with cancer in Lebanon and the region.

Around 300 guests attended the charity dinner that was held at the Lebanese Embassy in Doha in the presence of Lebanese Ambassador to Qatar, H E Farah Berri; QCS Chairman, Dr. Khaled bin Jabor Al Thani; CCCL Chairperson, Joseph Asseily; and Lebanese politician, Nadim Gemayel.

In her speech, Ambassador Berri, thanked The Amir HH Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani for his continuous support to Lebanon. And to H H Sheikha Moza bint Nasser who was honoured in 2010 to visit the Children's Cancer Center in Lebanon.

She also appreciated the gathering of attendees and officials in Qatar, headed by H E Maryam bint Ali bin Nasser Al Misnad, Minister of Social Development and Family, H E Dr. Sheikh Khalid bin Jabor Al Thani, Chairman and Founder of Qatar Cancer Society, and Maha Hamad Al Attiyah, Acting Director of the International Cooperation Department.

“Humanity and giving are not new to the State of Qatar and its kind people, and nothing is better than our meeting today to unify our efforts for help. It is a great honour for me to be part of this tremendous humanitarian work, especially since we are all aware of the difficulty of cancer, physically and psychologically, for the elderly who suffer from it, so how about then Infect the little ones,” she added.

At the end of her speech, she continued her thanks to CCCL Chairperson, Joseph Asseily, and Nadim Gemayel, a Lebanese politician and the Lebanese community in Doha, for supporting this event.

For his part, Dr. Khaled bin Jabr Al Thani thanked the ambassador and all the honorable attendees, stressing QCS 's keenness to participate in all initiatives that achieve its vision to be the community partnership platform for making Qatar a leader in cancer prevention and its burden control.

“The Society is a member of the Union for International Cancer Control (UICC), one of the largest international institutions, which requires QCS to have more responsibilities and tasks to remain an active member in this global platform.”

Asseily mentioned that CCCL is currently supporting almost 50 percent of all children and adolescents with cancer in Lebanon and that despite the challenges over the past three years, it has increased its capacity by 60 percent to cope with the increased need, where the yearly demand for the centre reaches $15m.

The center also provides various psychosocial support programs catering to the well-being of the patient and their family all through the stages of treatment.
