Zelensky Proposes Imposing Sanctions On Iran For 50 Years


(MENAFN- UkrinForm) Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has tabled in the Verkhovna Rada a draft resolution approving the decision of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) on the introduction of sanctions against Iran.

According to the website of the Verkhovna Rada, the document has already been submitted for consideration by the parliament's leadership and the Committee on National Security, Defense and Intelligence, Ukrinform reports.

"To approve the decision of the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine dated May 27, 2023 'On the application of sectoral special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions) to the Islamic Republic of Iran,' put into effect by Presidential Decree No. 308/2023 dated May 27, 2023," the draft resolution reads.

According to an annex to the document, the sanctions are to be imposed for 50 years.

Earlier, in an interview with Italian media, Zelensky said that Iran had sold more than 1,000 drones and "other weapons" to Russia.

Zelensky earlier implemented the NSDC decision on the application and introduction of changes to personal special economic and other restrictive measures (sanctions). Restrictive measures have been applied to 300 individuals, including citizens of the Russian Federation, the Islamic Republic of Iran, and the Syrian Arab Republic.

Some 141 legal entities have also been sanctioned.
