Amman, May 28 (Petra) -The 57th session of specialized Arab federations, organized by the Arab League's Council of Arab Economic Unity (CAEU), kicked off in Amman on Sunday, aimed to regulating inter-Arab economic relations.
Addressing the opening session, Representative of the Senate President, Senator Issa Murad, said the meeting is "key" to address federations' challenges, regulate inter-Arab economic relations and discuss multiple development issues.
Murad said Arab world is witnessing political, security and economic challenges that have increased poverty and unemployment rates, triggered declining economic growth and high inflation, adding that Arab economic situation thus became "scary."
Continuing:" Several Arab countries today suffer from a scarcity of natural resources and an acute shortage of water resources, " referring to increasing desertification areas, high levels of pollution, Covid-19 pandemic repercussions and effects of the Russian-Ukrainian war on the prices of food and energy commodities.
On future action, Murad stressed importance of reaching Arab economic integration to achieve sustainable development, harness Arab resources to strengthen food security, dodge repercussions of natural disasters, climate fluctuations, and political pressures due to "manipulating food as a weapon" by some countries.
For his part, CAEU Secretary General, Ahmed Al Ni, said Jordan is "always keen" to enhance joint Arab action in various economic, social and political issues to achieve pan-Arab sustainable growth and realize prosperity.
Al Ni also noted CAEU sought to achieve its goals by implementing "feasible" plans, strategies and programs to meet Arab economic challenges, which would reflect "positively" on achieving the common Arab market to launch the desired Arab economic integration.
