Amman, May 14 (Petra) - Ministry of Education and Pearson, the global educational company, on Sunday signed a partnership agreement to develop the Kingdom's vocational education and training sector by implementing BTEC International Specialist and Professional program in Jordan's vocational schools.
The agreement, which was signed by Minister of Education and Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Azmi Mahafzah, and Pearson's Director of Corporate Affairs (Workforce Skills), Hana Hawkins, aims to support realization of economic policy of the ministry, employers and main Jordanian partners.
The agreement also seeks to ensure that the program fully meets the needs and requirements of Jordan's labor market by implementing its axes over the next five years, according to a ministry statement.
Under the agreement, some 54,000 students will benefit from the program during the next three years, which focuses on training educational staff and building their capacities to transfer their acquired competencies and skills to their colleagues at a later stage.
Based on the agreement, a certificate accredited by the ministry and Pearson will be granted to students, who pass success requirements for the company's international certificates and launch activities to study common culture subjects.
These Pearson qualifications are accredited by universities worldwide, including the United Kingdom, the United States, Australia, Canada, and the Middle East and North Africa region.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Mahafzah said the program is a "pioneering" global approach in technical and vocational education and training, and aims to enable students to develop technical skills in the required professional disciplines.
The minister added that the program also seeks to develop knowledge about employment requirements in the Kingdom's labor market, promote students' knowledge and skills and enable teachers to master the required teaching methods.
Jordan will implement the second and third levels of the BTEC Career Pathways Program for 10-11 grades to provide alumni students with the opportunity to develop their qualifications once beneficiaries enter technical colleges, universities and labor market.
