Iranian, Pakistani Officials Hold Meeting to Grow Private Sector Ties

(MENAFN) The Head of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines, and Agriculture (TCCIMA), Masoud Khansari, and the Chief Executive of the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP), Muhammad Zubair Motiwala, met on Tuesday in Tehran to discuss the need for expanding relations between the private sectors of the two countries. The officials emphasized that trade between Iran and Pakistan should not be limited to border trade in Quetta but should be directed to official channels between private production and export companies of both countries.
During the meeting, Motiwala expressed the readiness of his organization to facilitate long-term and progressive interaction with TCCIMA to promote commercial exchanges between the two countries' economic enterprises. He also stressed the importance of continuous exchange of business delegations to introduce the economic and market cooperation capacities of both countries and identify the goods and services needed by the markets of both sides.
The officials agreed that the chambers of commerce in Iran and Pakistan could provide the basis for expanding interactions between the private sectors of the two countries. They discussed the need for revising and modifying tariffs on commodities traded between the two countries to increase the level of economic cooperation. In this regard, Motiwala reminded the participants that Pakistan is taking serious measures.
Khansari welcomed the ideas presented by the Pakistani side and emphasized the need for amending tariffs on goods exchanged between Iran and Pakistan. The officials discussed the potential for expanding trade in a range of sectors, including agriculture, textiles, and petrochemicals, among others.
The meeting between the officials represents a step towards strengthening economic ties between Iran and Pakistan, and expanding the role of the private sector in promoting commercial exchanges between the two countries. The officials' emphasis on the need for revising tariffs and expanding interactions between private sectors provides a foundation for future cooperation between Iran and Pakistan.
