Egypt, Canada Fms Discuss Sudan Situation


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, April 24 (KUNA) -- Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shukry and his Canadian counterpart Melanie Joly on Monday discussed by phone the current situation in Sudan and Egypt's efforts to shore up a recently announced ceasefire.
During the phone conversation, the Canadian foreign minister voiced much concern over the worsening security situation in Sudan and negative impacts on Sudanese civilians and foreign communities in this Arab country, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.
She said she looked forward to knowing the latest developments in Sudan and Egyptian efforts to shore up the ceasefire, according to the statement.
For his part, the Egyptian foreign minister briefed Joly on Cairo's endeavors to hold up Sudan's ceasefire, along with its contacts with regional and internatioal parties in this regard.
Both ministers, further, agreed to continue consultation and coordination during the coming period in a bid to step up efforts to help Sudan find a way out of its current crisis.
Infighting between the Sudanese army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary forces has left at least 420 people dead since it began on 15 April. (end)
