QatarEnergy, Namibia Ministry of Energy Sign MoU to Strengthen Cooperation in Energy Sector
(MENAFN) QatarEnergy has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia to strengthen cooperation in the energy sector. The agreement was signed at a special ceremony held at QatarEnergy's headquarters in Doha, with His Excellency Saad Sherida Al-Kaabi, the Minister of State for Energy Affairs, and the President and CEO of QatarEnergy, and His Excellency Tom Alweendo, Minister of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia in attendance. The MoU aims to promote continued cooperation between the two entities and covers key areas such as knowledge sharing, workforce development, and exploring further investment opportunities in Namibia.
HE Al-Kaabi expressed his pleasure in further enhancing cooperation with the Government of Namibia and building on recent successes. He noted that the agreement further strengthens the relationship between QatarEnergy and Namibia and reinforces their joint commitment to a prosperous future.
QatarEnergy recently announced a light oil discovery in the Jonker-1X well in the Orange Basin, offshore southern Namibia, adding to the previous two separate oil and associated gas discoveries in the same basin in 2022. This latest discovery is a significant milestone for QatarEnergy, and it is hoped that it will lead to further exploration and development opportunities in the region.
QatarEnergy holds interests in three Exploration Licenses offshore Namibia, namely PEL-39 (45 percent), PEL-56 (30 percent) and PEL-91 (28.33 percent), covering a total area of over 28,000 km². The company's investment in Namibia's energy sector is part of its broader strategy to diversify its portfolio and expand its global footprint.
The MoU signed between QatarEnergy and the Ministry of Mines and Energy of the Republic of Namibia is expected to create new opportunities for collaboration and innovation in the energy sector. By sharing knowledge and expertise, both entities can work towards achieving their mutual goals of sustainable growth and development in the energy sector.
