OIC Welcomes Resumption of Diplomatic Relations Between Qatar, Bahrain

(MENAFN) The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has welcomed the decision made by the State of Qatar and the Kingdom of Bahrain to resume diplomatic relations. The announcement was made following the second meeting of the Qatari-Bahraini Follow-up Committee, which was held in Riyadh. The move is a significant step towards resolving the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) crisis that has been ongoing since 2017.

Hissein Brahim Taha, Secretary-General of the OIC, praised the decision, stating that it reflects the GCC's commitment to mending rifts and enhancing cooperation and integration between the region's countries. He added that the resumption of diplomatic relations will help realize the aspirations of the people in the region and enhance joint Islamic work.

The resumption of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Bahrain is a positive development for the GCC, which has been facing a diplomatic crisis since 2017. The crisis started when several GCC countries, including Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates, imposed a blockade on Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism. Qatar denied the allegations and refused to comply with the demands of the blockading countries.

The Qatari-Bahraini Follow-up Committee was established in 2018 to resolve the issues between the two countries. The second meeting of the committee was held in Riyadh, where the two sides agreed to resume diplomatic relations. The move is expected to pave the way for other GCC countries to follow suit and end the three-year-long dispute.

The resumption of diplomatic relations between Qatar and Bahrain is a significant milestone for the GCC, as it demonstrates a willingness to resolve disputes and work towards greater cooperation and integration. The OIC's welcoming of the decision is a positive sign for the region, and it is hoped that other countries will follow suit in the near future.
