Garangao Celebrations Held Across Qatar to Honor Children

(MENAFN) Garangao, a traditional celebration to honor children, is being celebrated across Qatar and the Gulf region during the middle of the holy month of Ramadan. The public and private sectors in Qatar have arranged Garangao events for children to participate in and enjoy the rich cultural heritage. The tradition originated as a way to celebrate children as they attempted to fast.

Various venues across Qatar are hosting Garangao events tonight, including Corniche Plaza, Lusail Boulevard, Al Shaqab, Katara Cultural Village, Msheireb Downtown Doha, West Walk, 900 Park, and Al Maha Island. The Fire Station held its inaugural Garangao yesterday, featuring activities for people of all ages, such as painting on tote bags, henna, and distributing sweets.

The Garangao cultural activation at Corniche Plaza features free events, including theatrical productions and seminars in art and design. Lusail Boulevard is offering gifts of sweets, nuts, and toys from 9 pm to midnight. Al Shaqab Village is hosting a vibrant and young Garangao night with fun heritage activities like a contest for the best children's Garangao night attire, a fashion display, lantern-making workshops, traditional games, sadu weaving, and more.

Katara Cultural Village is continuing the yearly practice to preserve the history of Qatar and the Gulf by hosting Garangao night throughout the village. Smart city Msheireb Downtown Doha is holding activities and contests dedicated to children, including the best Garangao outfit, where they can win a staycation and Suhoor with their families at one of its luxurious 5-star hotels. The contest will run today and tomorrow.

Other Garangao events will take place in West Walk, 900 Park, and Al Maha Island, where there will be giveaways for children, henna, and storytelling workshops, among other activities. Malls across the country such as Galeries Lafayette, Al Asmakh Mall, City Center Mall, Ezdan Mall, Doha Festival City, Mall of Qatar, and Tawar Mall will celebrate the annual event mostly tonight and will run until tomorrow.

Qatar Foundation will host Garangao celebrations on April 8 with an emphasis on sustainability. The various Garangao events held across Qatar offer children the opportunity to participate in traditional activities, make new friends, and enjoy their cultural heritage.
