EU Condemns Atrocities Committed By Myanmar Armed Forces

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) BRUSSELS, March 28 (KUNA) -- The European Union has condemned the atrocities committed by the Myanmar military against its own people.
EU spokesperson for foreign affairs and security policy, Peter Stano said in a statement on Armed Forces Day in Myanmar, "the main duty of any army is to protect its citizens."
"The EU condemns the atrocities committed by the Myanmar military against its own people & calls for restoring stability and democracy with legitimate civilian rule in Myanmar," he said on his Twitter account.
According to media reports, the Myanmar military on Monday celebrated the country's Armed Forces Day by holding the annual military parade.
General Min Aung Hlaing, the head of the military regime, in his speech said he will deal decisively with what he described as "acts of terror" by armed resistance groups.
He claimed that countries that have condemned his coup "are supporters of terror, and were wrong."
Tenos of thousands of people have been killed and over a million displaced since the army took over control in Myanmar in 2021. (end)
