Pediatric Surgeon's Close Call with School Shooting Sparks Call to Action

(MENAFN) Britney Grayson, a pediatric surgeon who narrowly escaped a mass shooting at The Covenant School in Nashville, has spoken out about the gun violence that continues to plague the United States. Grayson had just finished speaking to students at the small religious grade school about her work on missions in Kenya when she left the parking lot in search of a Starbucks. Just moments later, a shooter entered the school and opened fire, killing three children and three adults.

Grayson was alerted to the attack via text and took to Facebook to express her horror at the senseless violence, asking, "WHY ARE OUR CHILDREN BEING MASSACRED IN THEIR SCHOOLS?!" The tragic incident at The Covenant School is just one of 15 mass shootings to occur on U.S. school and college campuses since 1999, resulting in the deaths of 175 people.

In the aftermath of the shooting, Grayson has been left shaken by the experience. She reflected on the fact that if the incident had occurred just moments earlier, she and her companions could have been victims themselves. She also noted that, as a surgeon, she may have been able to offer immediate care to the victims had she been present at the time of the shooting.

Grayson's experience highlights the ongoing issue of gun violence in the United States and the devastating impact that mass shootings have on communities and individuals. As the debate over gun control continues, incidents like the shooting at The Covenant School serve as a reminder of the urgent need for action to prevent future tragedies.
