Three dead, four missing after explosion at Pennsylvania chocolate factory

(MENAFN) An explosion at the R.M. Palmer Co. chocolate factory in West Reading, Pennsylvania, on Friday killed three people and left four people missing, according to authorities. Rescue crews, using dogs and imaging equipment, continued to search through the rubble on Saturday, with emergency personnel searching for victims and state and local fire investigators examining the scene to determine a cause.

West Reading Borough Chief of Police Wayne Holben confirmed the death toll rose on Saturday with the discovery of a third body at the site. The Berks County Medical Examiner and Coroner also confirmed three fatalities on Saturday night. Borough Fire Chief Chad Moyer said four people remained missing, and the chance of finding survivors was decreasing rapidly.

Moyer emphasized that the primary goal was accounting for all missing individuals and reuniting them with their loved ones. The cause of the explosion is still under investigation, and the incident highlights the need for vigilance and safety measures in industrial settings to prevent tragic accidents like this from occurring.
