Two Men Plead Guilty to Robbing Boxer Amir Khan at Gunpoint

(MENAFN) Boxer Amir Khan was robbed at gunpoint of his £70,000 ($86,000) diamond watch in April 2022 in Leyton, east London. The robbery was captured on CCTV and showed 20-year-old Dante Campbell pointing a gun at Khan's face, demanding that he take off his watch. Campbell then fled the scene in a silver Mercedes driven by 25-year-old Ahmed Bana.

Campbell and Bana pleaded guilty to charges of conspiracy to rob and possession of an imitation firearm at London's Snarebrook Crown Court on Friday. Sentencing will be set at a later date.

Stuart Ponder, a detective constable with the Met Flying Squad, said that the robbery was carefully planned and executed by individuals who knew exactly who they were targeting and what for. He added that despite the busy street and presence of other members of the public, the perpetrators had no qualms about brandishing a firearm and threatening Khan with extreme violence.

A Flying Squad investigation used CCTV footage to identify the car as being insured by Bana and through him identified Campbell as the gunman. The pair were arrested on June 22.

At a previous hearing, Khan described the incident as "really, really scary" and said that when Campbell put the gun to his face, he couldn't recognize him because he had a mask on. Khan looked away because he didn't want the gunman to pull the trigger.

The guilty pleas of Campbell and Bana bring some closure to the traumatic incident for Khan and his family.
