China Adds More Traditional Villages to State Protection List
(MENAFN) China continues to promote heritage conservation by adding 1,336 traditional villages to the state protection list, according to a notice from the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. This move brings the total number of traditional villages under state protection to 8,155 in six batches, thanks to the joint efforts of six government organs.
To further strengthen the protection and utilization of these traditional villages, the ministry is urging localities to establish and improve archives of traditional villages and guide the villages to draw up protection plans. This way, they can ensure that the villages are well-protected and preserved for future generations.
China launched a survey of traditional villages in 2012, and through years of continuous effort, the country has successfully brought 539,000 historic buildings and traditional dwellings under protection. The country has also inherited and developed 4,789 items of intangible cultural heritage at or above the provincial level.
This latest addition to the state protection list is a testament to China's commitment to preserving its cultural heritage. By protecting traditional villages, the country is not only preserving its rich history but also promoting sustainable tourism, which can boost the local economy. It is hoped that this effort will continue to promote the importance of cultural heritage conservation in China and beyond.
