Changes are afoot at the UK Gambling Commission (UKGC). The UK’s chief governing gambling body, which is responsible for advising, licensing, and regulating the country’s gambling companies, have announced the appointment of David Rossington CBE as their interim commissioner.

Rossington, who is a former civil servant, has been handed the role by the UKGC on a nine-month term. Having previously held several positions in the government, including finance director for the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport (DCMS) as well as acting Director General. Rossington will be responsible for overseeing gambling-related measures at the UKGC, and ensuring all licensing objectives are met.

More pertinently, Rossington has worked closely with and assisted the UKGC in the past as an independent member of the National Lottery Competition Committee, and his political gravitas augurs well.

It has been a busy past 12 months for the UKGC, as they named Andrew Rhodes as their permanent chief executive, and more recently, they played a key role in chairing the igaming industry’s ICE event in London.

This year, the UKGC took advantage of the event as the gambling world congregated to discuss the latest developments and product innovations.

Naturally, the UKGC has had to contend with the globalisation of the industry, and it is expected there could be sweeping changes that will be proposed in a government white paper in the UK.

Over the past few years, the appetite for gamblers playing on the internet has shown no signs of diminishing. Punters flock to top-rated online casino UK sites like LeoVegas and Casumo to access some of the finest games.

Aside from having a smorgasbord of slots for players to pick from, these operators will generally be well endowed with strong bonuses to enrich the betting experience of players. Moreover, they will have apps that are compatible with iOS and Android devices to make playing on the go seamless.

As far as Rossington is concerned, he is the type of person that could help shake things up for the UKGC and the gambling industry as a whole, and his experience dictates he can influence change.

Rossington is highly intelligent, and it will be fascinating to see how he collaborates with the UKGC over the next few months. Whether he can be persuaded to stay on after his current contract expires, will be another thing.
