The Kalimat Foundation Works With The Blind And Visually Impaired People To Determine The Best Means To Access Knowledge

The House of Wisdom in Sharjah hosted an open discussion circle organized by the Kalimat Foundation's“ARA Initiative” to enhance the implementation of the“Marrakesh Treaty” rules overseen by the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The Kalimat Foundation (KF) is the first non-profit organization in the UAE to be granted a license under the agreement, allowing it to distribute, copy, and make copies of published works available in formats that are accessible to the blind, visually impaired, and print-impaired without breaking any copyright laws.

The ARA Initiative's new sponsors,“Sharjah Charity International” and“Sharjah Islamic Bank,” as well as Sheikha Jameela bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, President of Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, attended the open discussion circle.

Its goal was to share knowledge about the best ways to give blind and visually impaired children and teens more publication alternatives and give them access to knowledge sources.

Dr. Muhammad Mustafa al-Nabali, director of the educational program at the Royal Academy for the Blind in Jordan, Reem Jassim, manager of special initiatives at Kalimat Foundation, and journalist Dr. Abdul Salam Al Hammadi from the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority hosted the discussion.
