Ukraine, Saudi Arabia cooperate to grow partnership in several sectors
(MENAFN) Ukraine and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia have agreed to deepen cooperation in several key sectors. Head of the Office of the President of Ukraine Andriy Yermak announced the news during a joint briefing with Ukrainian Foreign Affairs Minister Dmytro Kuleba and Saudi Arabian Foreign Affairs Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud in Kyiv. The parties have discussed Saudi Arabia’s involvement in investment and energy projects, as well as its participation in the ‘Grain from Ukraine’ humanitarian initiative.
Yermak expressed gratitude to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia for its support of Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity. He particularly highlighted Saudi Arabia’s endorsement of the UN General Assembly’s Resolution, which commemorated the one-year anniversary of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine on February 23, 2023. The Ukrainian official emphasized that the Kingdom's support for Ukraine's Peace Formula is also appreciated.
The Grain from Ukraine humanitarian initiative is another area of cooperation between Ukraine and Saudi Arabia. Yermak stated that Ukraine is planning to work together with the Kingdom in this initiative.
The parties also discussed the ongoing Russian aggression against Ukraine. In particular, they discussed the use of Iranian drones by Russia to attack Ukrainian territory. Saudi Arabia faced a similar problem in 2019 and offered its assistance to Ukraine.
Yermak expressed his appreciation for the visit of the Saudi Arabian Foreign Affairs Minister and the assistance provided by the Kingdom to Ukraine. In September 2022, Saudi Arabia allocated $400 million in humanitarian aid and facilitated the release of ten foreign prisoners of war. The Ukrainian official emphasized the importance of the dialogue and the meeting and looked forward to further strengthening relations between the two countries.
Yermak emphasized the significance of resolving global challenges together, based on respect for international law and the UN Charter. He noted that the recent voting at the UN General Assembly shows that Ukraine and Saudi Arabia are on the same page in this regard.
In conclusion, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's allocation of $400 million in humanitarian aid to Ukraine demonstrates its commitment to helping Ukraine in its current situation. The meeting between the officials of the two countries shows the willingness of both sides to strengthen their cooperation and work together on pressing global issues.
