Turkey's UN Envoy Calls for Swift Diplomacy to End War in Ukraine

(MENAFN) At an emergency session on Ukraine at the UN General Assembly, Turkey's new UN envoy Sedat Onal stressed the need for a swift articulation of a diplomatic vision to end the war in Ukraine.

Onal stated that the fact that the war is about to enter its second year with little prospect of peace is disheartening and that a clear vision for ending the conflict through diplomacy must be articulated sooner rather than later.

Onal emphasized that Turkey has adopted a principled position in rejecting the war in Ukraine and calling it unacceptable since day one. He noted that Turkey has also tried to facilitate diplomacy at an early stage both in Antalya and Istanbul. Onal cited the Black Sea Grain Initiative brokered by Turkey and the UN as proof that diplomacy can deliver results.

As the conflict enters its second year, Onal stated that Turkey will remain engaged in all efforts towards ending the war. He reiterated Turkey's position on the war and stated that Ankara fully supports Ukraine's territorial integrity, independence, and sovereignty. Onal added that Turkey stands firmly against the war and rejects the annexation of Ukrainian territories under Russian control.

In conclusion, Turkey's new UN envoy's call for swift diplomacy to end the war in Ukraine highlights the need for international cooperation to resolve conflicts and maintain peace. As a country with a strong commitment to peace and diplomacy, Turkey's involvement in efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine is essential.

By adopting a principled position and supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity, Turkey is demonstrating its commitment to international norms of justice and fairness.
