World's largest trial of four-day workweek shows positive results

(MENAFN) Pilot program results reveal that working less may be the key to getting more done. Billed as the world's largest trial of a four-day workweek, the program was led by 4 Day Week Global, a nonprofit advocating for a shorter workweek with increased flexibility around where, when and how people work. Over 60 UK-based companies participated in the pilot program, which offered roughly 3,000 workers an opportunity to do more work in less time, earning them an extra day off every week.

The results of the six-month trial, which ended in December, showed that the majority of companies and employees benefitted from the abbreviated workweek and will continue the same schedule moving forward. In fact, 92 percent of participating companies will continue to implement a four-day workweek following the trial, and over 90 percent of workers expressed a desire to continue their four-day workweek schedules.

The concept of a four-day workweek is gaining traction in the US as well, with dozens of companies rethinking what constitutes a full-time schedule and maintaining abbreviated schedules. These include Panasonic, Kickstarter, and thredUp, according to FlexJobs.

Charlotte Lockhart, co-founder of 4 Day Week, expressed satisfaction with the program's results, saying, "What has come out of it is, it means companies have the confidence to continue on and keep changing and improving what they're doing to make sure they can keep reduced hours for their businesses in the long term."

For some workers, the end of the pilot program marked a point of no return, with 15% of workers expressing that they would not accept a five-day schedule again, no matter how high the salary.
