Al Ajami Bags Big Tour Victory, Al Qadi Wins In Open Class

Faleh Suwead Al Ajami lit up the competition for overall title as he teamed up with Ghana to clinch Big Tour victory at the conclusion 10th round of 14-leg Qatar Equestrian Tour - Longines Hathab yesterday.

Teaming up with the 17-year-old bay, Al Ajami produced a perfect show in the jump off clocking 31.66 to emerge victorious in the QR60,000 event at Longines Arena at Al Shaqab. The pair completed the first round with a time of 68.56 after committing four faults.

With four rounds remaining, Al Ajami took his points tally to 255 inching closer to leader Mohammed Khalifa Albaker, who secured fourth position yesterday.

Albaker, who rode Demilion, clocked 34.05 in an error-free jump off to take his tally to 260 points after the opening round of 71.57 with four faults.

Sheikh Khalifa Al Thani, astride Serendipity, secured second position in the Big Tour with a flawless run in the jump off, finishing the course in 32.44.

He also dropped the rail on four occasions in the first round which he completed in 66.60. Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi, who rode S I E C Lonnie, completed the podium earning third position with his run of 32.63 in the jump off without dropping points. He finished the challenging opening round in 71.57 after four faults.

Al Ajami, who also paired with Crispo in the Big Tour yesterday, completed the top five after another error-free performance in the jump off, clocking 34.70.

Longines Hathab Organising Committee Vice-Chairman Omar Al Mannai handed over trophies to the podium winners.

Earlier, Ghanim Nasser Al Qadi, riding Quick Step, produced a flawless performance to win the Open Class with a time of 49.70.

Khalid Mohammed Al Emadi with Mira V/D Roshoeve was also impressive in the competition yesterday but he lacked a little pace, ending up runner-up with a time of 51.12. Saeed Hamad Jumaa, astride 714 Ambre De Beaufour, finished third after clocking 51.71.

Khalid Ali Al Abda (53.06), who teamed up with Curt Lele, took fourth position while Mohammed Ali Al Adba (53.27) with Bonne Chance occupied fifth place in the overall standings of the 10th round.
