QU Holds Introductory Meeting For Postgraduate Students

(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar University (QU) held an introductory meeting Saturday for postgraduate students (Spring 2023).
The meeting shed light on the various academic programmes and services provided by the university to students enrolled in the diploma, masters, and PhD programmes in various colleges and departments.
This meeting was attended by 200 new students, who were introduced to the university, its various academic and advisory facilities and services, and inform of the rules and policies that regulate life on campus.
In a statement to the Qatar News Agency (QNA), Vice-President for Research and Graduate Studies Prof Mariam al-Ali al-Maadeed said that the meeting aimed to introduce students to the academic journey of the postgraduate stage in all its details.
She added that this meeting was the first step for students in their academic career at the postgraduate level, enhancing their ability to resume academic and practical life in steady steps, and with insight into the policies, services, and rules followed in this important academic stage.
Al-Maadeed also said that admission to the Spring 2023 semester was open to several programmes, including all master's and PhD programmes in the College of Engineering, some programmes in the College of Arts and Sciences, a PhD degree in the health sector, and to PhD programmes in the College of Sharia and Islamic Studies.
Dean of Postgraduate Studies Dr Ahmad al-Own said that the introductory meeting was an important platform for introducing students to the policies followed and the services provided, as well as presenting the experiences of students previously enrolled in postgraduate programmes.
Dr al-Own spoke about postgraduate studies and what distinguishes them from the bachelor's stage and gave an overview of the postgraduate studies office, the services it provides to students, research grants and their importance to them, and various service activities and facilities.
Assistant Dean for Student Affairs at the Office of Graduate Studies Ghada al-Kuwari gave a detailed explanation of some important policies for postgraduate students, and the dates that students should consider for the Spring 2023 semester.
The services that are provided at the Postgraduate Education Centre were also highlighted, such as workshops for writing thesis, services that focus on training students to write a thesis, the various experiences that students go through, and other group workshops and individual support sessions.
QU Library gave a brief overview of its various sources to support the student with research while two postgraduate students presented their study experience.
The number of programmes available for postgraduate studies at the QU amounts to 52 major programmes, and up to 70 sub-programmes in different colleges, which have many links to industry and the local community.
The QU offers a wide range of internal research scholarships to students to contribute to national research priorities that cover important vital sectors such as health, energy, environment, cyber-security, and others.
