UEFA declares adding new knockout round for Nations League competition in 2024

(MENAFN) UEFA declared on Wednesday that the Nations League competition is going to be extended with an additional knockout round after 2024.

"League A group winners and runners-up will participate in home-and-away quarter-finals, with the winners of these ties qualifying for the Final Four," UEFA stated in an announcement.

Adding, "The 3rd-ranked of League A and the runners-up of League B, as well as the 3rd-ranked of League B and the runners-up of League C will play a home-and-away promotion/relegation play-off."

UEFA also mentioned that the knockout round is going to be hosted in March and "create continuity" among the group stage closing in November as well as the finals in June.

The leading body of European football stared that European finalists for the UEFA EUROs as well as the FIFA World Cup would be additionally consolidated, with countries separated into 12 groups of four and five teams.

It added that "With the traditional home-and-away matches and ‘all play all; principles retained, this simple format will offer more competitive groups at all levels."
