(MENAFN- Jordan Times) AMMAN - Prime Minister Bisher Al Khasawneh on Wednesday at the 2023 World Economic Forum, which is currently being held in Davos, Switzerland, held meetings with Political and economic leaders, heads of major international institutions, businesspeople and regional and international organisations.
During the meetings, Khasawneh reviewed the comprehensive modernisation project with its political, public sector and economic tracks with planned development projects over the next 10 years, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The prime minister also went over the Kingdom's procedures to enhance the investment environment and remove obstacles and challenges hindering the investment process and the business environment.
In a meeting with President of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) of Iraq, Masrour Barzani, Khasawneh stressed the 'solid' nature of Jordanian-Iraqi relations and his keenness to broadly strengthen bilateral ties.
Khasawneh noted that Jordan, under the leadership of His Majesty King Abdullah, supports Iraq and its people in achieving their aspirations for a prosperous future.
The premier also stressed the importance of second Baghdad Conference for Cooperation and Partnership, hosted by the Kingdom last month at invitation of His Majesty.
He noted that the event affirmed support for Iraq's efforts to continue its path towards development and prosperity, enhance its security and stability, strengthened respect for its sovereignty, and developed cooperation mechanisms aimed to enhance regional security and stability, and contribute to development process.
During the meeting, which was attended by Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Zeina Touqan, the parties discussed prospects for cooperation between Jordan and the Kurdistan region, and ways to expand ties in all fields, especially economic endeavours, were discussed.
Khasawneh affirmed the government's readiness to increase cooperation between Jordan and Iraq's Kurdistan region and harness all technical and administrative capabilities and expertise to provide assistance and work to overcome any obstacles.
The prime minister and Barzani also discussed investment opportunities available in Jordan and the Kurdistan region, and ways to stimulate the private sector of both sides and establish investment projects that benefit common interests.
In addition, talks dealt with tourism promotion and cooperation in the medical field between the two sides' public and private sectors, as well as increasing the region's imports of Jordanian pharmaceutical, food and fertiliser products.
Khasawneh also held a meeting with Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Abu Dhabi-based investment and holding company ADQ Mohamed Hassan Suwaidi.
The prime minister said that Jordan welcomes more Emirati investments in the Kingdom, expressing the government's keenness to follow up on the completion of projects implemented by ADQ in Jordan, and remove any obstacles that hinder their fulfilment.
He presented Jordan's key measures to enhance the investment climate and remove obstacles and challenges facing investors.
In this regard, he pointed to the establishment of the Ministry of Investment and the endorsement of Jordan's new Investment Environment Law, which unified investment references and removed multiple bureaucratic obstacles. These steps contribute to attracting local and foreign investments and enabling those already present, he said.
The prime minister also met with Indian businessman Gautam Adani, Founder and Chairman of the Adani Group, one of the largest companies in the world.
During the meeting, which was also attended by Minister of Finance Mohammad Al-Issis, Khasawneh highlighted Jordan's 'attractive' investment environment, which aims to attract more foreign investments and enable existing ones, and welcomed the group's investments in major projects in Jordan.
Khasawneh also expressed Jordan's readiness to be a regional cente for the launch of the group's business and investments in the region.
Adani affirmed his group's interest in investing in multiple sectors in Jordan given the Kingdom's 'promising' investment prospects.
During the meeting, the two sides agreed to exchange visits between Jordanian government officials and the group to discuss available investment opportunities.
Khasawneh also held a meeting with Meridiam Chairman and CEO Thierry Déau over investment opportunities in the Jordanian economy.
During the meeting, attended by Al-Ississ and Toukan, the premier reviewed governmental steps to enhance the investment environment in the Kingdom and facilitate procedures for investors.
Déau said that the fund has existing investments in Jordan in the transport and water sectors, and voiced the fund's aspirations to increase its investments in the Kingdom.
The premier also met with WEF Chairman Klaus Schwab and referred to the longstanding partnership between Jordan and the WEF, commending the great efforts Shwab has exerted over the past years in establishing the forum.
The minister noted the importance of the topics that the WEF raises, especially strengthening international economic cooperation after the global economic challenges resulting from the COVID-19 pandemic and the Ukrainian-Russian crisis.
Schwab voiced his appreciation for the partnership between the WEF and Jordan, as well as the Kingdom's roles as the host of several regional forum conferences. He also voiced his appreciation for Jordan's efforts, under the leadership of His Majesty, to achieve peace and promote security, stability and prosperity in the region.
The prime minister also met with President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso. Khasawneh expressed the Kingdom's pride in the partnership between Jordan and the bank, which is considered among Jordan's most important partners and supporters in both the public and private sectors.
Renaud-Basso expressed the bank's ambition to expand its activities and investments in Jordan.
