Suspension of German governor's bodyguards due to radicalism

(MENAFN) According to a local news station, MDR, two German police officers who had protected the governor of Saxony-Anhalt for 12 years, Reiner Haseloff, have lately been suspended owing to potential ties to far-right organizations.

The offending chat, which the Ministry of the Interior revealed on Friday was discovered "by evaluating another person’s mobile phone" in the course of a police investigation into alleged extremist officials in the security forces of neighboring Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, was allegedly shared by the pair. The messages included content trivializing National Socialism and anti-constitutional and right-wing extremist messages.

The two individuals have been under criminal investigation for extremism since their suspension last month and are not permitted to undertake official activity inside the State Criminal Police Office (LKA). Disciplinary actions were also taken against them for allegedly failing to uphold the constitution, but these have been put on hold while the criminal investigations are ongoing.

Despite the fact that they were not involved in protecting important politicians and were instead reassigned to office duties rather than suspended, two further Saxony-Anhalt LKA personnel are currently under investigation for identical offenses as well as criminal and disciplinary matters.
