Doha: Doha Environmental Actions Project (Deap) Qatar is calling on the public to join their cleanup drive at Singing Sand Dunes on Friday, January 13.

“This Friday we are going to the beautiful singing sand dunes. This is a kid and family friendly activity. Join us!” it said.

Volunteers need to have their own transportation. Anyone under 18 years old must be accompanied by an adult.

Gloves, pickers and bags will be provided. The group also asked that individuals who will be participating should dress appropriately.

“Bring your own food and drinks. Please bring a reusable water bottle. We will have a refill station for everyone to use. Feel free to bring something to share (not mandatory), but please make sure it is something that's not too heavily packaged so we produce less waste,” Deap Qatar explained.

To register, send a direct message to their Instagram page @deapqatar and include how many people are coming. The group will send a confirmation message.

The cleanup drive will start at 3pm to 4pm, and from 4pm to 5pm. There will be social time so volunteers can enjoy the beautiful beach and sunset. The event will end at 5pm.

For the past year, over 3,000 volunteers participated during its Season 5 cleanup drive.

Aside from this initiative, Deap Qatar has also been conducting awareness sessions for schools, companies, embassies, and government institutions.

“Despite COVID-19 restrictions, we completed 100 cleanups and dozens of school presentations. With your help, we removed 27 tons of trash from our beaches, rawdas, sand dunes, mangroves, and heritage sites in Qatar,” it said.

“Every year, 11 million tons of plastic waste enters the ocean around the world, posing a threat to the planet and humanity. The environmental challenges that we face are enormous, and so is our determination to raise environmental awareness and do our part so we can #keepqatarclean and beautiful for generations to come,” Deap Qatar said.
