Turkey: Nine people were injured in roadside bomb incident
(MENAFN) According to Turkish officials, a bomb placed in a parked car detonated as a police minibus passed through southern Türkiye early Friday morning, injuring eight cops and a civilian.
The event occurred near a cattle market in the southern section of Diyarbakir, the provincial headquarters of the namesake Turkish province, according to Governor Ali Ihsan Su. He called the explosion a terrorist act.
As per Turkish media, the armored police vehicle was hauling riot cops along the motorway that connects the city to Mardin. Inside the minibus was also a wounded person.
The patients' lives are not believed to be in danger, but all nine were transported to the hospital as a precaution. The governor stated that seven people had subsequently been released.
Suleyman Soylu, Turkey's Interior Minister, said that law enforcement had apprehended two individuals in connection with the incident.
The roadside explosion was not immediately claimed by any group, and Turkish officials refused to identify the suspects.
In Istanbul last month, a bomb killed six people and wounded hundreds more. Ankara accused the conspiracy on a Kurdish group headquartered in northern Syria and retaliated with a cross-border bombardment campaign. The Syrian-based, Kurdish-led People's Defense Units (YPG) militia, as well as the PKK, or Kurdistan Workers' Party, whom Turkish officials blamed, denied any participation.
