Herat Security Dialogue In Tajik Capital Concerns Over Resurgence Of Terrorism

With over 200 participants from various countries, the 10th Herat Security Dialogue, with the theme“Inclusive Political system: The Way Forward,” opened on Tuesday, in the Tajik capital, Dushanbe.

Several foreign figures with an interest in Afghanistan's affairs say that this conference is a unique opportunity to exchange views on the situation in Afghanistan.
However, the host country has voiced alarm over the resurgence and expansion of terrorism in Afghanistan.

The 10th Herat Security Dialogue, organized by Afghan Institute for Strategic Studies (AISS) kicked off on Tuesday, November 29, in Dushanbe.

During the two-day meeting's opening statements, speakers from the host country
expressed alarm over the growth of terrorist organizations in Afghanistan.

In his speech to begin the conference, Muzaffar Hussainzada, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan, expressed his concern for the upswing of terrorist organizations, particularly ISIS and Al-Qaeda in Afghanistan.

The Tajik official also added that drug production and trafficking have also increased significantly over the past year in Afghanistan.

The Tajik official continued to condemn the Afghan government in its current form, saying that Tajikistan prioritizes and supports the creation of an inclusive and responsible Afghan government.

The
conference, titled“Inclusive Political System; The Way Forward,” which is being held by the Institute of Strategic Studies of Afghanistan in the city of Dushanbe, commenced on Tuesday and will last for two more days.

The US Charge d'Affaires, Karen Decker, reacted to the annual Herat security talks by calling it a great opportunity to discuss and address the situation in Afghanistan.

Karen Decker is also among the attendees of the dialogue. Decker wrote on her Twitter handle that she is there in the conference“to listen” and“to reiterate [the US] strong support for the Afghan people and for an Afghanistan at peace with itself and its neighbors.”
