France collects six points to guarantee group stage qualification

(MENAFN) France defeated Denmark 2-1 in their World Cup Group D encounter on Saturday to become the first side to advance to the round of 16.

In the first half at Doha's Stadium 974, neither team was able to break the tie.

In the 61st minute, Kylian Mbappe scored a close-range goal for Les Bleus with Theo Hernandez's help.

Defender Andreas Christensen's header after eight minutes gave the Danish national team a point.

Mbappe got his name on the score sheet once more for France in the 84th minute to take the lead.

In a Group D encounter earlier that day, Australia defeated Tunisia 1-0 thanks to a goal by Mitchell Duke in the 23rd minute at Al Janoub stadium.

France sitting at the top spot with six points, three points on top of Australia who is sitting second while Denmark and Tunisia have so far amassed a point each.
