Ukraine seizes holdings in 'strategic' enterprises for military purposes

(MENAFN) The Ukrainian government claims it has used wartime legislation to seize control of shares in numerous "strategically essential" enterprises in order to ensure that its military has enough supplies to repel a Russian invasion.

Defence Minister Oleksii Reznikov announced on Monday the acquisition of a prominent engine manufacturer as well as four other energy and industrial companies from some of the country's wealthiest individuals.

He did not specify the extent of the holdings acquired but stated that the assets of the five firms will be overseen by his ministry to address "critical" military demands.

“This is about providing fuel and lubricants, repairing military equipment and weapons,” Reznikov informed a press briefing, with Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal and Oleksiy Danilov, secretary of Ukraine’s national security and defence council.

None of the five firms responded immediately.

Shmyhal stated during the conference that the enterprises being taken over by the state produce or offer services that are "essential" to Ukraine's defense and energy requirements.
