British Curry Festival At Intercontinental Dhaka From October 21

Dhaka: The British Curry Festival, which showcases the United Kingdom's favourite curry dishes alongside the best of British cuisine, is returning to Dhaka after a decade, as announced at a press conference held on October 19 at InterContinental Dhaka.

Lord Karan Bilimoria, Ex-President of British Chamber of Commerce and industry and a life peer of the UK House of Lords, Atiqur Rahman, Managing Director, Bangladesh Services Ltd, sheikh Mohammad Maroof, Additional Managing Director, City Bank, Frances Jacks, Director of Communications, British High Commission, Syed Belal Ahmed, Editor, Syed Nahas Pasha, Chief Editor, Curry Life Magazine and Ashwani Nayar, General Manager, InterContinental Dhaka, among others, were present at the press conference.

The Festival will begin on October 21, at InterContinental Dhaka's signature all day dining restaurant Elements for buffet dinner and will run till October 26.

This year, the Festival features Michelin Star Chef Dominic Chapman, Head Chef and Patron of The Beehive Restaurant in Berkshire. His arrival marks the first time a Michelin Star's visit to Bangladesh.

Alongside Chapman is a cohort of five more award-winning curry chefs: Chef Jamal Uddin Ahmed, owner of Shozna, Jafor Solim Uddin of the Maidenhead's The Fat Buddha, Syed Zohurul Islam, Executive Chef at The Capital, Durham, Chef Utpal Kumar Mondal, former Executive Chef of Hotel Hindustan International, and Chef Moloy Halder, Executive Chef of Specialty Groups.

On the occasion, Lord Karan Bilimoria, Ex-President of the British Chamber of Commerce and Industry and a life peer of the UK House of Lords, said,“The growth of the curry industry has been spectacular, emerging from a handful of restaurants in the 1980s to over 12,000 today. Curry has become such a revolution because of the Bangladeshi community, and pioneering Bangladeshi chefs and restaurateurs, in the UK.”

Chef Dominic Chapman said,“I am greatly looking forward to learning about the culture of Bangladesh. I cannot wait to work with the team and have unique culinary experiences. While I will definitely be creating dishes inspired by British recipes, I am excited to make the best use of the local produce as well.”
