Baghdad: Scores wounded as Iraqi militaries, protesters clash
(MENAFN) Scores were wounded on Wednesday in clashes between Iraqi security militaries and activists in the capital Baghdad, as said by local experts.
In a declaration, the Cabinet’s Security Media Cell stated 122 militaries and 11 protesters were injured in the violence.
The declaration urged all Iraqis "to abide by the directives of the relevant security agencies."
Earlier Wednesday, hundreds of Iraqis protested in Baghdad as the Iraqi parliament was holding a meeting after a months-long pause.
Seven militaries were also wounded after three rockets reached Baghdad’s fortified Green Zone as the parliament meeting took place.
Iraqi politicians on Wednesday voted to refuse the resignation of Parliament Speaker Mohammed al-Halbousi.
Iraq has been locked in a deep political crisis in latest months amid the failure of Shia groups to accept a new premier since the nation’s previous elections on Oct. 10, 2021.
