Chinese Firm Chosen As Dominica International Airport Contractor

ROSEAU, Dominica – China Railway No.5 Engineering Group Co., Ltd.,“CR5”, has won the contract for Dominica International Airport project, which is worth more than EC $1 billion.

Following the signing of the agreement by the government of Dominica, , Chief Executive Office, (CEO) and president Anthony Haiden solicited bids from several international airport contractors.

After a lengthy selection process, CR5 was selected to lead the design, construction, supply, completion, testing, and commissioning of the international airport that will serve as Dominica's premier global gateway.

Anthony Haiden, CEO and president of MMC Development Ltd., said that CR5's bid for the project was the best one.

” We are confident that CR5 can complete the airport project construction with quality and quantity within the contract period.”

Haiden also said that MMC Development Ltd., as the airport's developer, would make sure the airport is resilient and sustainable so that everyone can get the most out of it.

In a statement, CR5 expressed their joy at being selected as the project's general contractor.

“The Dominica International Airport project is our first overseas design and construction general contracting spot project. It is also the first airport project covering the flight area, terminal area, supporting construction in front of the station, procurement and installation of communication equipment and other engineering categories.”

Dominica International Airport is planned for the northeast coast of the island, between the settlements of Woodford Hill and Wesley. It will take up about 500 acres of land.

The Dominica International Airport will have a 2850-meter runway, a modern terminal building, and other buildings like an ATCT tower, a general aviation hangar, a fuel farm, aircraft rescue and firefighting (ARFF) facility, a central sub-station, a cargo bay, and a waste disposal/treatment plant.

Over the past few months, a team of specialists has conducted a comprehensive geotechnical and environmental evaluation to develop comprehensive action plans following international standards.

Mainly funded by Dominica's Citizenship by Investment Program ( ), the airport development is designed to accommodate up to 750,000 passengers yearly. Additionally, it can handle wide-bodied aircraft such as Airbus A350 and Boeing 777-200ER on direct routes to North America, Europe, and Asia.
