Second Stage Of“Aragalaya” Underway

The second stage of the“Aragalaya” is now underway and more protests will be staged in the days to come, protesters said today.

Eranga Gunasekara, national organiser of the Socialist Youth Union (SYU), said that the protests which began with the push to remove then President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, has not ended.

Gunasekara said that the second stage of the“Aragalaya” is now underway.

He said that more people will take to streets in the coming days and protest against President Ranil Wickremesinghe.

Gunasekara said that the President has no authority to govern the country.

He was speaking to reporters after being granted bail today.

Gunasekara was among a group of protesters who were arrested in Maradana yesterday and were granted bail today.

Lawyers said that of the 83 protesters who were arrested yesterday, 80 were released on police bail and 3 on bail by court.

The Police fired tear gas and water cannons on the protest in Maradana last afternoon.

The protest was led by the Socialist Youth Union and was staged against the Government. (Colombo Gazette)
